Media Kit Solo w/ You
“Solo, w/ You”
A brief background:
I focus on solo works as both choreographer and dancer. Within the challenge of insufficient funds to hire dancers, I dove into an introspective journey as an artist and person. Memories of Mexico blend with education in Milwaukee, post-undergraduate experiences in Chicago, and future in Minneapolis. Despite the artistic and personal challenges of “starting-over” in each city, the continual search for greater truth and meaning of the self has been an impetus for my career. The intimate, intentional work I create through experiences, dreams, and memories, investigates and embraces the individual’s search for a best self.
“Solo, w/ You” is a forty-five minute dance evening blending momentous parts of my life thus far. Exploring what it means to create, questions of giving oneself in a relationship, or dissecting the parts which make us all human. In all, I arrive by accepting the kaleidoscope of my identity in today’s time: a mid-career young-queer-bilingual-male-immigrant independent choreographer.
In the end, I hope to leave something beyond myself. A demonstration of will to create despite challenges or the reiteration in striving for holistic health to achieve happiness. Simply, remembering and honoring my parent’s history in foregoing their own for the once “American Dream”, is at the forefront of who I have been and who I want to be; a change, a supporter for others, a voice among the community. “Solo, w/ You” summarizes physically what you will see, while embracing the paradox of learning who we are individually to truthfully be with someone.
