It’s my birthday month :) and a birthday month for many people I adore as well! But also a time of rest, to indulge, be with close ones, reflect, and set new goals. This month included working with Pramila Vasudevan/Aniccha Arts as a production manager/extra hands/writer. It defined a conclusion to a year of trying this emerging practice of “Reflections”. Encouraged by Emily Gastineau after being in a rut trying to figure out my life for the next 30 years (a hyperbole but also kinda true). It also emerged from seeing Leila Awadallah perform a work last December in response to the continued genocide of Palestinian people. Somehow a personal experience with eyes and ears open to others brought on this writing practice, to reveal dance/experiences from BIPOC voices. Thank you to those who went on this journey with me and have engaged.
A version of this practice continues with my ongoing residence in the Omnivers program trough Red Eye Theater and will present itself through their NW4W program in 2025…
This coming year also sees my return to performance and choreographing. With support from a grant, I will premiere a new work
September 19+20. This is your 9 month SAVE THE DATE PSA ;)
I’ll hint at: a solo, a double night performance, an idea of rest, an idea of threshold, rope, runway, happiness. To start.
Until then, into the studio I go and into a residency in Albuquerque in February. My goal: complete 50% of the show and make contingency plans. I say it aloud so there’s accountability. Oof, 2025 seems stacked already from writing this email, but there’s always time to play! Reach out!!
